MOMA date <3

   – Enjoying a cup of coffee –
  Coffee, sunnies, & sugar
Coffee date with this cutieOur view

We all love art, whether is historic, modern, or “weird art that we will never understand what it means”. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I went on a little date in NYC and we decided to stop by the MOMA museum. He just went there a couple of days ago and this was my first time. When you think of museums, you think of yourself spending the whole day there and enjoying the art, sculpture, etc. But…since we were running a little late from our previous activity, we only had around 30 minutes to spare. In case you didn’t know, the MOMA museum closes at 5:30pm; (Which is normal museum time, but we just assumed that it’d be open later) we arrived at 5:00pm and practically ran in. The only reason why he wanted to bring me was for the rooftop cafe. He said it was a beautiful view and the environment itself is amazing; so naturally, I was intrigued.

We quickly ran into the elevator and pressed “5”. Went to the hostess and asked for 2 seating outside, by the balcony. As the hostess speak, our happiness level went from 10 to a solid 3, real fast. She apologized and said that they are starting to clean up the balcony and that they can’t seat any more people. My boyfriend insisted to sit outside, in a polite manner. Explaining to her that we drove all the way from NJ, just to have a cup of coffee at the rooftop cafe. After (what it feels like) 5 minutes of persistent from our end, the hostess finally gave in and allowed us to sit outside. As we sip our latte and cappuccino, we looked out and admire the beautiful view of the city. While we were sipping our drinks, I obviously had to snap a few pictures – for my memory and more importantly – my blog, obviously! (I’m only kidding)

It felt so peaceful up on the rooftop cafe. Not a worry in the world. With absolutely no stress in my mind, I looked at my boyfriend and – smiled.

Let me know if you have ever been to the MOMA museum before!

Chicken Satay with Cauliflower over Rice

Hi Loves xx,

Two nights ago, I created this delicious, mouthwatering, tender, juicy, chicken satay over rice. This recipe is SUPER simple and requires only a handful of ingredients. I was going to create actual chicken satay with this recipe, but I thought it would taste super delicious as a sauce like meal. So let’s get right into the recipe!

You’ll need…

4 Chicken Breasts
1 cup of Coconut Milk
2 tablespoon of Curry Powder
2 teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
2 teaspoon of Sugar
1 teaspoon of Salt
1 Cauliflower

And…THAT’S IT!!

First, cut the chicken breasts into cube form – put that aside. Also, cut up the cauliflower into individual cauliflower bite form. Now, combine all the dry ingredients together – sugar, salt, turmeric powder, and curry powder – in a large bowl. Then, add in the coconut milk, and start stirring it together into a crepe mixture consistency. Slowly add in the cubed chicken breast in the mixture. After it is all submerged into the mixture, slowly add in the cauliflower – make sure they’re all submerged into the mixture as well. Let it sit for 5 minutes in the mixture.

At this time, pour some olive oil, or any kind of oil, into a cooking non-stick pan. Put your fire on medium heat, allow the oil to heat up at this time. After the 5 minutes is up and the oil is all heated up, you can start cooking your chicken and cauliflower. Pour out the whole mixture onto the heated pan and allow it to cook, until the chicken and cauliflower are cooked through all the way. The cooking time should be around 15 minutes or less. At this time, you can start placing your rice on your plates. When the chicken and cauliflower are fully cooked, place the combination over rice – and enjoy!

Let me know if you decide to try out this recipe!! 🙂 I would LOVE to see your creation.

Much Love,

Penne Vodka with Chicken and Peppers

Total cook time: 30 minutes || Prep time: 5 minutes || Total cost: <$16

So…I decided to try and create a penne vodka dish with a twist of peppers. This wasn’t as creamy as I’d like it to be, probably because the vodka sauce and pasta ratio was way off. Anyways, it was still delicious, if you want to know how I create this dish – keep reading!

You’ll need….

1 box of ziti
4 chicken thighs (they’re more tender than breast)
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
1 yellow bell pepper
1 bottle of vodka sauce
1 1/2 teaspoon of Montreal Chicken blend
1 1/2 teaspoon of Chili Powder
salt and pepper to taste

First, you’re going to dice up the chicken thighs. Then, start cutting the peppers into thinly strips and cut that in half, so it’s almost the width of the diced up chicken. Start by putting some olive oil and butter into a pan, heat it up in medium heat. Once it’s heated up, start putting the peppers in and allow that to cook for 5 minutes. Take it out of the pan and put it aside. At this time, start cooking that pasta based on the box instructions. Then put more olive oil and butter onto the heated pan, start cooking the chicken. Move the chicken around constantly, don’t allow it to get burned. By moving it around, it allows the chicken to get cooked evenly and not dry it up. Once the chicken is cooked through, put the peppers back in. By this time, your pasta is most likely done. Drain it and put it aside. Back to the chicken, pour in the vodka sauce. Put the lid on and allow it to simmer for around 2-3 minutes. Start putting the pasta onto the plates, then pour the chicken and peppers mixture on top of it. I added some dry parsley for garnish and red pepper flakes for taste. ENJOY!

Let me know if you recreate this dish!

Simply Casual

Top: JCPenny // Boyfriend Jeans: MANGO // Necklace: Charming Charlie // Sunnies: H&M // Bag: H&M

Who has ever worn a super casual outfit, but it turned out to be a super cute outfit?? I know I have. Today was one of those days. I was running late (as usual) for my internship, and I had to shower, get dressed, put my make up on, do my hair, and make my lunch before I leave. Wow, what a list! As I was stepping out of my shower, I already knew what I wanted to wear and in my mind – it seemed like a safe outfit. So, as time went on, I did my make up, blew dry my hair, curled it, and eventually, got dressed. I looked at myself in the mirror and I felt really confident, because of my outfit. Here’s a little tip: Dress up whenever you can, because a good outfit can give a girl a boost of confidence you can’t get anywhere else.

When trying to find a cute, casual outfit, you need to start out with simple and basic items. Try and pick out neutral color shirt from your closet and pair it with a neutral color bottom. If I were to recreate this outfit for the winter – I would put a tan color sweater cardigan over the entire outfit. That helps keep the neutral pallet pattern, but keeps you warm from the cold. However, if you live in California and the weather is super hot all the time, then I would pair it differently. I would wear a pair of white cuffed shorts, to replace the white jeans. I hope this helps!

No Aluminum Deodorant – Why??

Many women nowadays uses deodorant on a daily basis – which is actually a good thing. BUT, many of us are probably unaware of the harm that deodorant can cause on your body. According to a quote from WebMD, “I just got information from a health seminar that I would like to share. The leading cause of breast cancer is the use of antiperspirant. Yes, ANTIPERSPIRANT. Most of the products out there are an anti-perspirant/deodorant combination so go home and check your labels.” This subject is particularly sensitive to me and I try to advocate as many people as possible. However, this isn’t to tell you that you will not get breast cancer whatsoever, it just decreases your chance.

After using regular deodorant that contains aluminum, among other chemicals, I’ve never had a complaint about it. I’ve always loved how it does its job and it helps me stay fresh. Until, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This happened about a year ago and in this year, we’ve learned a lot about decreasing our chances from getting breast cancer. When my mom told me to switch my deodorant to no aluminum deodorant, I was a little resistant. I didn’t like any of the scents the no aluminum deodorant carries and the variety is small. But, I did pick up a deodorant in the end. I picked this up as my first no aluminum deodorant.

450

You can purchase this product here.

My first initial reaction to this deodorant was – this smells like baby powder. I used it anyways, but throughout the day, I can smell the scent was fading. It almost felt like the deodorant wasn’t even working and I wasn’t wearing any. I stayed with this for around two weeks, because I wanted to really test it out. It didn’t get any better – so I picked up a new brand.

no alumnium deodorant

You can purchase this product at any drug store. This Arm & Hammer no aluminum deodorant in Fresh scent, is probably the best no aluminum drug store deodorant I’ve tried. The scent smells really – fresh – haha. The deodorant itself needs reapplication throughout the day, so I’d just bring it along with you to work. I usually reapply it 1-2 times depending on what I was doing that day. It feels so great to know that I am applying something that is natural on my underarm. The reason being using a no aluminum deodorant is so important is because – “antiperspirant prevents the body from “purging toxins,” which, when trapped, find their way into the lymph nodes, where they concentrate and contribute to the cellular changes that lead to cancer.” – WebMD

I highly suggest every women to change their deodorant and switch to a no aluminum deodorant. You may tell yourself that your risk of getting breast cancer is slim, but you won’t know until it occurs, then it’s too late. So why not help yourself decrease that chance, with a small change?

Mitsuwa-wa-wa

Black sesame ice cream from Matcha Love – large $4.95
Green tea and red bean pancakes with mochi – $2.50/piece Salmon sashimi over rice – $8.50

Let me tell you about Mitsuwa, it’s located in Edgewater, NJ. It’s a supermarket that mainly sells Japanese food items, but there are also restaurants inside. The supermarket itself sells fresh meat and fish, along with fresh vegetables and other non-perishable items. My family and I went to Mitsuwa mainly for lunch, but we ended up buying food for our hot pot dinner the next day. While we were looking for food at Mitsuwa, I stepped outside my comfort zone and got something other than a fried pork cutlet over rice (which is delicious, btw!). As you can see from above, I got myself a bowl of salmon sashimi over rice. It came with a bowl of miso soup and a small container of soy sauce. The salmon was so tender and juicy, and I don’t usually have sashimi! The rice was so perfectly moist and sticky; the miso soup was the perfect amount of saltiness and water. Overall, my meal was a 10/10.

After lunch, my sweet tooth was yelling  – “get me something sweet!”, so I looked around. I usually go for this pancake like substance, where they put red bean paste inside, and mold it into a fish shape. But, I got something different this time. I got myself a black sesame ice cream from Matcha Love. Let me tell you about this ice cream – it was SO creamy and the black sesame taste was SO strong. You were definitely getting what you paid for. Lastly, we also tried something new. I’m not sure what they are called – but they made the dough right in front of your face. It almost taste like a pancake, with a crepe texture. They filled it with green tea and red bean paste, with mochi on the side; so we got two of each. It was really tasty, but definitely not worth $2.50/piece. However, if it’s your first time trying it, I’d splurge on it.

Have you guys ever been to Mitsuwa??

Much Love,

A little bit about SHOWPO… (Source: http://www.iloveshowpo.com/our-story/)

PAST

Showpo started off as Show Pony in a little garage in Sydney back in September 2010. Jane, our founder, was so bored in her corporate job as a business analyst, and coudn’t imagine spending the rest of her life between those grey cubicle walls, so quit her job and started Showpo. She had a dream to provide girls with fun, on-trend fashion for a really great price that is affordable for all. We opened our first store merely two months after opening, and soon another in Sydney CBD Westfield. Through channelling social media and staying at the forefront of new innovative trends, Showpo has managed to excel in the highly competitive women’s fashion industry. In January 2013 we closed down our bricks and mortar store, a great day for us because the online sector is skyrocketing and it meant we could focus all our efforts on the most profitable and saleable part of the business.

PRESENT

Today, Showpo has 11 happy staff members and is growing at an exponential rate. If you step into our office, you will find the space abuzz with awesome music, camera snaps, typing fingers and laughter! We have a really great office environment and our team is constantly growing. As Jane calls it “it’s just like high school, you get to hang out with your friends every day, but the assignments are fun and there’s no detention!” Our office is adorably white and pink – and the “Pony Lounge” chill out area (our fave place for a few cheeky Friday after work drinks) is decked out in sweet tunes, comfy couches and always good times! We even have a bed in our office if you need a quick snooze after a big night! The flow in and out of colourful stock keeps our world going round. We are constantly seeking out best practices, and innovative new strategies to further the business and we of course love looking after our online community of happy shoppers!

Check out the cheeky little video we made one slow day at work back in our old warehouse –>

FUTURE

Showpo aims to be the largest online boutique retailer of women’s fashion in Australia, and then who knows… THE WORLD! and though we are well on our way to achieving our goals, there is still a long way to go! A top priority is to nurture our community of quirky, bright and bubbly Showpo girls!

Check out our “SHOWPO TV” youtube channel for a behind-the-scenes look at the craziness that is our growing fashion empire!! 🙂

You are my sunshine.

Simple, elegant, bold summer outfit.  Outfit details listed below: Blazer: JCPenny // Tank top: H&M // Shorts: Kara // Shoes: Toms // Necklace: Charming Charlie

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. That’s what I think of, when I think of summertime. Pop of color, here and there. Summer’s all about being BOLD. So, go outside of your comfort zone and wear something you’d never wear normally. In this outfit, I chose to wear my bold yellow blazer. To be honest, yellow is probably one of my least favorite color to wear, but this mustard yellow blazer is a different story. Mustard yellow is such a musky color. It’s not too bright where you’ll definitely pop out, but it’s different enough for you to stand out. My motto is: Don’t be afraid to stand out, because being normal is boring. I definitely try to live by my own motto as much as possible, but it’s hard for a girl whose favorite colors are: white, neutral and black. I would definitely suggest purchasing a bold color blazer to help you enhance your dull outfits.

Onto my outfit… my blazer was purchased at JCPenny, and tbh, it’s my first time wearing it in years. Under my blazer, I went with a simple outfit, to neutralize the bold blazer. I wore a simple white tank top from H&M and a pair of plain black shorts. I topped off the whole outfit with a pair of Tom’s booties. (Fun Fact: I purchased these at Plato’s Closet for $20! They were so brand new that I couldn’t’ resist)

Salmon burger madness!

This dish is SO simple to create, yet so delicious. I was around my house, searching for food (as always), and I stumbled upon canned salmon. At first, my reaction was – “ew”..but then I thought of salmon burgers and the rest is history!

So for this recipe, you’ll need:

  • 12ounces skinless boneless salmon (sold in 6 oz cans or packets)
  • 12medium onion, chopped
  • eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper

Directions:

  1. Saute onions in 1 TBS olive oil until cooked through but not brown.
  2. Drain liquid from the salmon.
  3. Combine salmon, sauteed onion, eggs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Form mixture into patties. (I placed the patties back into the can, to create the patty shape).
  5. Melt oil in a pan.
  6. Brown salmon patties on both sides (about 4-5 minutes per side).
  7. Place cooked patties on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

I placed the cooked patties on top of a homemade salad that I made, and paired it with a slice of buttered toast on the side. Let me tell you…this recipe is SO easy, but so yummy!! Definitely worth trying – comment below if you’ve ever had salmon patties before.

Black, White, & Brown

What an interesting combination of colors, but it worked!  Sunnies: Target // Top: JCPenny // Bottom: TJ Maxx// Flats: CallItSpring

This my professional yet casual outfit. I wore a sheer white blouse with a white tank top underneath, since it was very see-through. Paired it with some regular-ol’ black jeggings and brown flats. This outfit turned out more chic than I though, the colors work super well together and the flats really change the whole look. The brown flats have a wooden pattern detail on it, so it’s not just your plain old brown flats. They are from CallItSpring, which is a brand from JCPenny. Fun Fact: They are actually a brand created from ALDO shoes, so you can get cute and reliable shoes, at an affordable price! I buy almost all my shoes from that brand and they all still look brand new till today.

Have you ever gotten shoes from CallItSpring?? If you did, comment below and tell me your thoughts on their shoes/style!
